A city of over 45,000 residents, La Quinta is the newest city in the valley, having incorporated in 1982. It is home to the renowned La Quinta Resort & Club which features three golf courses, over 20 swimming pools, a renowned tennis club, and over 650 guest accommodations, including "casitas." Other fine country clubs are available: PGA west, with it's four golf courses--a popular second home destination for baby boomers: Rancho la Quinta; the Citrus; The Traditions; The Andalusia Country Club, and the soon to be completed silver Rock with two city-owned courses.

La Quinta is home to families and retirees who are attracted by the many parks and golf courses. Another major attraction is Lake Cahuilla County Park, a 125 surface-acre water reservoir that is stocked with bass and trout and is located only several minutes from the heart of the city. Boating, camping, fishing and hiking are all available. The city sponsors many family-oriented events throughout the year, including an Easter egg hunt, community picnics and the La Quinta Arts Festival where artists from all over the U. S. and Canada join local artists in displaying their works and art for sale.

In 2004, the average home price in La Quinta was just over $510,000. It is still possible to buy an older "starter" home for around $300,000.
